INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES
Listening
-Come in during off-period, lunch, or before or after school to listen to a recording of Prelude and Fugue in B-Flat Major with a copy of the score. Listen to the entire work two time while following along in the score: the first time looking at your part and seeing/listening to how it fits into the overall texture of the piece, the second time looking at and listening to an instrument in a different family than your own (woodwinds follow a brass part, brass follow a woodwind part, percussion follow either a woodwind or brass part). Write two paragraphs describing what you'd heard and saw during your listening experience as well as things you will listen for or adjust while you are playing the piece in the Listening Blog.
-Listen to an original recording of Prelude and Fugue in C Major, BWV 553 on organ (mp3 and YouTube links below) while looking at the parts for organ (Score for Prelude and Fugue in C Major, BWV 553). Write a couple paragraphs about what you heard, what you liked or did not like in the performance, and what can we take from that performance and apply to our performance of Prelude and Fugue in B-Flat Major in the Listening Blog.

-Using the Wikipedia article “List of Compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach,” select four works from his different categories of composition and listen to them using YouTube or iTunes. For long multi-movement works, select one movement to listen to. After listening to them, write a paragraph or two for each about what piece you listened to, who performed it, what you heard, what you liked, and what you didn't like in the Listening Blog.
